Every claim on this site rests on a measurement. Characterisation is how a property becomes a number with a method and a tolerance attached — and how a failure mode is found before a customer finds it.

Without the method and the tolerance, a figure is marketing. Characterisation runs through the whole engagement rather than sitting at the end of it, which is what makes an iteration loop short enough to be useful.

Mechanical and thermal testing
Tensile, tear, modulus, transition temperatures and thermal stability, measured to a stated method.

Barrier and migration
Permeation and, where a contact class applies, migration testing against the limits that class sets.

Accelerated ageing
Protocols designed so the acceleration maps onto real time rather than merely producing a fast answer.

Failure-mode analysis
What breaks, at what point, and in what order — which is more useful than a pass mark.
