Every property you add costs another. Barrier against sealability, stiffness against toughness, cost against shelf life. We fix the targets first so the trade-offs are chosen rather than discovered at the end of a trial run.

Property spread measured batch to batch, so the material behaves the same on the fiftieth run as on the first.
